What does your typical day at work involve?

My typical day at work would be five or six minor repairs such as replacing a broken plug socket, putting up a blind, changing a lock etc. Other duties include portable appliance testing, health and safety checks, plus any emergencies that occur through the day.

What do you enjoy most?

My days are never the same. Different repair, different locations, which means I meet lots of different people. It’s never a dull moment!

What has been your most satisfying experience?

I think it’s just knowing that, however simple the job may seem to me, it’s probably a major concern for some of the clients. Just the fact that something is broken can cause a lot of anxiety.

AndyWhat different roles have you had in Transform?

I was promoted from Multi Trades Person (MTP) to Senior MTP when the post became vacant.

What training and development have you received?

I have had an enormous amount of training not only upskilling in the things that relate to my trade but also in personal skills such as diversity training, anger management and dealing with difficult people, all of which have been very beneficial.

What do you think you have gained personally?

As well as learning new skills such as plumbing and electronics, I think I have a far better understanding of people’s needs and can empathise with many of the residents.

What do you think of Transform as an organisation to work for?

I think the general wellbeing that Transform give to their client group extends also to the staff too, I think the majority of staff are very happy and this definitely shows in their work.

What experience did you have of this sector?

None really, apart from friends or family that may have experienced difficulties. I worked on building sites and had not encountered working with vulnerable people at all.

My days are never the same. Different repair, different locations, which means I meet lots of different people. It’s never a dull moment!

What would you say to someone who is thinking of working for Transform?

Go for it! Even if it turns out that it’s not quite right for you, the experience gained in a short space of time would have been worth it.

What do Transform’s values mean to you?

Everyone deserves a chance in life and even a second chance, everyone needs someone to turn to for advice, support and reassurance. Transform tries to do this and I believe it is a successful story for many people.
