Candlelit Carol Service returns home to refurbished church

1 December 2014

Our annual carol service will return home to the newly refurbished St Mary’s Church Fetcham this year. Last year the church was closed for renovations and the service moved to the Salon at nearby Fetcham Park, which had previously served as a school chapel.

This year’s Candlelit Carol Service will take place on Thursday 11 December at 6.30pm, at St Mary’s Church Fetcham. The service is organised in partnership with Leatherhead & District Chamber of Commerce, offices and events venue Fetcham Park.

The traditional carol service will be led by the Reverend Marion de Quidt, Assistant Minister of St Mary’s. A welcome message will be given by our Patron Dame Sarah Goad DCVO, Lord Lieutenant of Surrey. There will be music from St Mary’s choir, as well as carols for everyone to sing.

The service will end with a retiring collection in aid of our work with homeless and vulnerable people.

After the service, there will be a festive drinks reception in the church – with drinks kindly donated by Fetcham Park. The event is generously supported by Leatherhead-based business and Chamber of Commerce member ExxonMobil.

The Reverend Marion de Quidt, Assistant Minister of St Mary’s, said:

“We are very pleased to welcome back the Candlelit Carol Service to our newly renovated church. We were very grateful to Fetcham Park for kindly offering an alternative venue for last year’s service. In return, this year both the service and the drinks reception will be held at St Mary’s, so that everyone can enjoy the renovated church. We hope that lots of people will join us for this exciting event in aid of a very worthwhile local charity.”

The event is free to attend and no booking is required. St Mary’s Church is located at 10a The Ridgeway, Fetcham, Leatherhead KT22 9AZ. Parking is available at adjacent Fetcham Park, Lower Road, Fetcham, Leatherhead KT22 9HD (Satnav postcode: KT22 9ES).

The house at Fetcham Park will be open for visits before the service, from 5.30pm to 6.15pm. Guests are welcome to tour this historic venue, including the impressive Great Hall, the breath-taking Salon, and the elegant Shell Room.

St Mary’s Church Fetcham was closed for renovation from October 2013 to March 2014. The church has been redecorated and reordered to provide greater flexibility for worship and events. The floors have been levelled to make them safer and more accessible.
