Carol Service welcomes Paralympian as special guest

A charity Carol Service in aid of Transform will welcome as its special guest the Paralympian, inspirational speaker and Ashtead resident Talan Skeels-Piggins.

Taking place at St Mary’s Church, Fetcham on Thursday 10 December the Candlelit Carol Service will be followed by a festive drinks reception at Fetcham Park.

The service has been organised in partnership with St Mary’s Church, Leatherhead & District Chamber of Commerce and Fetcham Park. There will be a free drinks reception at the historic Fetcham Park, with refreshments generously provided by Fetcham Park and the Chamber.

The evening will feature a welcome message from Elizabeth Kennedy (High Sherriff and Transform Vice Chairman)  followed by a traditional carol service, led by the Reverend Andrew Smith, Rector of Fetcham. The service will include a reading from local Paralympian Talan Skeels-Piggins and music from St Mary’s choir, as well as carols for everyone to sing.

Special guest

Talan Skeels-Piggins is an inspirational speaker who has overcome setbacks in his life to achieve a series of firsts. In March 2003, he suffered a motorcycle accident that left him paralysed from the mid chest down. Despite his injuries, he set about a series of challenges including representing Great Britain at the 2010 Winter Paralympics. His experiences have led him to give motivation and achievement talks all over Britain and to many different types of audience – from senior management of blue chip companies to primary schools.

Transform Chief Executive Paul Mitchell said:

“This promises to be a wonderful event in a beautiful setting and a perfect start to the Christmas season. We are very grateful to St Mary’s Church, Fetcham Park, the Reverend Andrew Smith and the Leatherhead and District Chamber of Commerce for making this event possible.

“The carol service is a chance to celebrate and to give thanks, while also supporting Transform’s work with those who are homeless or vulnerable in our community. Starting at 6.30pm, the event is free to attend and no booking is required. There will be a collection in support of Transform’s work with local homeless and vulnerable people across Surrey. We hope many people will join us on 10 December – and help us to transform lives this Christmas.”

St Mary’s Church is located at 10a The Ridgeway, Fetcham, Leatherhead KT22 9AZ. Parking is available at adjacent Fetcham Park, Lower Road, Fetcham, Leatherhead KT22 9HD (Satnav postcode: KT22 9ES).

With thanks to Fetcham Park, St Mary’s Church Fetcham and the Leatherhead and District Chamber of Commerce.
