Three fundraisers have recently taken on challenges and raised much-needed funds for Transform.
Thames Bridges Trek
On 12 September, Transform staff member Karen and her friend Amanda took part in the 20km Thames Path Bridges Trek. The trail started near Putney Bridge with a tented village and warm up and finished with a Tower Bridge celebratory reception on the Dixie Queen luxury paddle cruiser. The walk included 16 bridges, over 20km.
Karen said after the event:
“It was quite hard going at times particularly on the bridges. I completed the walk in around five hours and it was really enjoyable mostly. It was a beautiful sunny day, but it wasn’t too hot. My legs are a little sore now!”
Between them, Karen and Amanda raised a fabulous £140 to support the valuable work of Transform.
Surrey Bacchus Half Marathon
On 13 September, Transform staff member Paul took part in the Surrey Bacchus Half Marathon. The race started and finished at the marvellous Denbies Vineyard in Surrey. The route had one significant hill and was multi-terrain but mainly roads. Runners used footpaths along the North Downs Way, giving them breathtaking views over Mole Valley, Ranmore Common and the North Downs.
Paul said after the run:
“The race was great, there was a brilliant atmosphere and it is a beautiful part of Surrey to run in. My finishing time was 2 hours 15 minutes, which I was happy with. The best part was the fun I had running with 2,000 other people, with many fundraising for various causes, in a variety of costumes: Vikings, clowns, even a parrot! Of course the wine on offer at each water station was a bonus as well!”
Paul managed to raise an amazing £220 for Transform.
The funds raised will support Transform’s work with homeless and vulnerable people. We help over 1,000 people each year to overcome the issues they face and live independently.
Paul Mitchell, Transform Chief Executive, said:
“At Transform, we are very proud of the efforts made by our fundraisers, who not only raised valuable funds for us but also increased awareness of the important work we do. The money from these challenges will directly help us to continue transforming lives.”
