Colleagues going above and beyond

28 April 2020

At Transform our colleagues are doing an amazing job keeping our clients safe and well during this difficult time. We asked everyone to nominate people who they felt deserved a special mention so here is our very first Cheer a Colleague! Elizabeth (left) and Tina (right) really have gone above and beyond…

Elizabeth and Tina, Transform Care & Support Workers, have gone above and beyond to look after a client who was receiving end of life care due to COPD.

Ray lived with his sister Sue and her husband Chris while receiving care from Transform. He was 58 years old.

At the start of the Covid-19 outbreak Chris tested positive and was admitted to intensive care. During this time Sue also tested positive and so was incapacitated and unable to support Ray.

Despite the risk to their own health, Elizabeth and Tina continued to support Ray, as well as his sister during her isolation, even visiting him on their days off to reduce the number of carers being put at risk and ensuring the health of the rest of the team.

On the day of Rays death, Sue called Elizabeth who went and stayed with her until the services took Ray away. Sue was alone and in despair. She took the time to write a letter to the staff and said that they “will not forget Elizabeth and Tina or as Ray would say ‘T’ and ‘Lovely Lizzy’”.

Local Registered Operations Manager Jan Bennett said the care and support that Lizzie and Tina had provided had been absolutely first class. “Carers in many ways are the forgotten service and yet every day they approach their role with respect and care for our customers, despite the difficult and challenging times we are experiencing both on a personal and professional level,” she added. “I am incredibly proud of what Lizzie and Tina have done to help this family during this difficult time.”

Compliance Support Officer and Nominated Individual Helen Dickens was keen to stress that Jan should also be commended for her part in enabling the team to do their job to the best of their ability. “Jan sourced the additional PPE that was needed in a short space of time and ensured that the calls were covered by just two workers to minimise the risk to the whole team,” she said.
