Food drive will transform local lives

Transform Housing & Support has received almost one tonne of donations following a food drive by staff at Unum in Dorking.

Unum, one of the UK’s leading providers of financial protection, organised the food drive at its Dorking office, as part of the company’s charitable giving programme. Staff were invited to choose from a wish list provided by Transform of 50 essential food items, toiletries and household goods.

Donations were collected over a period of one week with an incredible 976kg received, equalling nearly £1,640 in value.

The donations will be distributed to clients throughout Transform’s housing projects. Transform provides homes and specialist support for more than 1,000 homeless and vulnerable people across Surrey each year.

Eleanor March, Communications and Fundraising Manager at Transform Housing & Support, said:

“We were absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of items collected by staff at Unum Dorking. We are incredibly grateful for their generous donation to Transform Housing & Support which will make a huge difference to our clients.

“Sadly it is not unusual for people to arrive at Transform with only the clothes they are wearing. This donation will allow us to give our clients welcome packs when they come to us, and emergency packs in times of hardship. Unum’s donation included essential food items, toiletries and cleaning products, all of which will give people a helping hand, as we support them to get their lives back on track.”

Susan Sanderson, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Unum, added:

“This is the second year that our Dorking office colleagues have supported Transform through Unum’s annual Food Drive. We’re delighted with how much we were able to hand over and are grateful to all of our staff for giving so generously to such a fantastic local charity. I know it will really make a difference to the many people that Transform support.”
