Guildford giving tree makes a big difference to young people

1 December 2010

A Guildford-based training company is making a difference this Christmas by providing gifts for vulnerable young people across Guildford and Woking.

The Ken Blanchard Companies has set up a Christmas giving tree in aid of local charity Surrey Community Development Trust. Employees at the office in Power Close in Guildford will each choose and buy a suggested gift from the tree. The presents will be distributed to young people in shared houses in Guildford and Woking run by the charity.

Toby, age 18, moved to one of the charity’s shared houses in Guildford, as a result of a family breakdown. With SCDT’s help he has adjusted to living independently, continued with his studies and is now applying to university.

"SCDT gave me the support that I needed, and continues to do so, but they also gave me the freedom and opportunity to make mistakes and then they helped me learn from them."

Surrey Community Development Trust (SCDT) provides housing and support to 1,000 people every year across Surrey, Sutton and Wokingham. Founded in 1972, the charity has supported 15,000 people over the past 38 years to improve their lives.

The Ken Blanchard Companies is a global leader in workplace learning, productivity, performance, and leadership training solutions. The Guildford office is the company’s UK headquarters and includes a modern training centre that offers a range of services, including in-company training, public workshops and training for trainers.
