Sleep Out at Home event raises vital funds to prevent homelessness

On Saturday 10 July, Transform supporters slept outside in their gardens, back yards or balconies to raise both awareness of homelessness and vital funds to help prevent it.

The Covid-secure event was open to family and friends, adults, children, and even their pets! Most participants found it to be a very thought-provoking experience and were all thankful to be sleeping back indoors the following evening.

More than 100 people kindly donated to the event, which raised over £3,400 on the night.

Transform’s Head of Business Development Hannah Monck said: “Recently, Transform Housing & Support, with assistance from Homes England and Elmbridge Borough Council, were able to purchase five one-bedroom flats under the Government’s Next Steps Rough Sleeper Initiative. These flats are now permanent homes for homeless people brought into emergency accommodation during the Covid-19 pandemic to prevent them from returning to rough sleeping.”

“The money raised from our Sleep Out at Home event will be used to help furnish these flats with the everyday items that we all need to live in our homes,” she added. “A big thank you to our wonderful participants and donors for enabling us to do this. By supporting our event you have helped us deliver life-changing opportunities for homeless people.”
