In September 2019, Transform signed up to Make a Stand – the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) appeal to tackle domestic abuse.
Transform made four different commitments, which we have been working hard on throughout the year. You can find a list of our commitments below, along with details of how we have been meeting them.
- Put in place and embed a policy to support clients who are affected by domestic abuse.
Transform created a Domestic Abuse Policy for Transform colleagues in September 2019. This policy is currently being updated to include additional support and procedural guidelines we’re providing for clients and customers.
Transform also has a client safeguarding policy, which incorporates help for young people and adults who are victims of domestic violence.
- Make information about national and local domestic abuse support services available on our website and in other appropriate places so that they are easily accessible for clients and staff.
We have created a Domestic Abuse Support Services leaflet, which we have shared on our Transform websites and on our intranet. This includes a list of local support services and national support helplines for people to contact.
- Put in place an HR policy, or amend an existing policy, to support members of staff who may be experiencing domestic abuse.
Our Domestic Abuse Policy, mentioned against the first commitment, was written to support Transform colleagues, as well as clients, who may be experiencing domestic abuse. It includes an appendix detailing useful external contacts for clients.
- Appoint a champion at a senior level in Transform to own the activity we do to support people experiencing domestic abuse.
We have appointed both a client champion and an employee champion, so that domestic abuse support is available and accessible for all staff and colleagues.
We have also joined the Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse, which provides us with the tools and resources necessary to better raise awareness within Transform and provide access to helpful services for victims of domestic abuse and their loved ones.
Further steps will be taken in the upcoming year to ensure Transform is continuing to improve how we support clients and colleagues on this issue. In the meantime, we hope you will join us in raising awareness and keeping a listening ear out for all our loved ones.
