A number of homeless individuals in Elmbridge will be soon be moving into fully furnished flats thanks to a £4,800 donation made by the B&Q Foundation to Transform Housing & Support. We support more than 1,700 people each year in Surrey and surrounding areas. This donation will enable the housing association to put furniture in to three properties that will soon become homes for people who don’t have a place to live or who are staying in insecure housing.
Transform is working with Elmbridge Borough Council and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to increase housing for rough sleepers as part of the Next Steps Programme. It got in touch with the B & Q Foundation – a charity founded by major DIY and home improvement chain B&Q – to ask for their support.
Head of Business Development at Transform Hannah Monck said many of the homeless and vulnerable people Transform supported arrived with few belongings, if any.
“This incredibly generous donation will allow us to purchase bedroom furniture, a sofa, table and chairs, TV, kitchen equipment, appliances, and linen for each of the three properties,” she explained. “This will not only provide them with a lifeline, it will also help turn their new house into a home.”
The B&Q Foundation helps charities working to benefit their local areas by shaping and improving spaces. The foundation believes that anyone can improve their home or environment around them to make life better so it was very pleased to be able to help Transform to support people moving in to their new homes.
Hannah Monck added:
“We are delighted that the B & Q Foundation believes in our project and we know this furniture will make such a difference to the homeless people moving into these properties over the summer.”
