Unum food donation will transform lives

14 April 2015

A food drive by staff at Unum in Dorking has collected almost one tonne of donations to support clients of Transform Housing & Support.

Unum, one of the UK’s leading providers of financial protection, organised the food drive at its Dorking office, as part of the company’s charitable donation programme. Staff were invited to choose from a wish list provided by Transform of 50 essential food items, toiletries and household goods.

Donations were collected over a period of one week with an incredible 835kg received. The final donation filled three cars and was delivered to us just before the Easter weekend.

The donation will be distributed between Transform’s housing projects, which provide homes and specialist support for more than 700 homeless and vulnerable people across the Surrey area.

Transform Chief Executive Paul Mitchell said:

“We are incredibly grateful to the staff of Unum Dorking for their extremely generous donation to Transform. We were absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of food collected, which will make a huge difference to our clients.

“Sadly it is not unusual for people to arrive at Transform with only the clothes they are wearing. Unum’s donation will allow us to give our clients welcome packs when they come to us and emergency packs in times of hardship. These essential food items, toiletries and cleaning products will give people a helping hand, as we support them to get their lives back on track.”

Susan Sanderson, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Unum, added:

“We were thrilled to be able to support Transform with such a fantastic amount of donations this Easter. Our annual Food Drive runs across Unum’s three main offices in Dorking, Basingstoke and Bristol and is a great opportunity for our staff to support people in their local communities with much-needed donations. Once again I’m really proud that our colleagues have been able to be so generous with their donations, collecting more than 1,300kg of food in total.”
