Housing & Support Manager
Joined Transform in 2008
What does a general day at work for you involve?
My role includes keyworking clients, housing management of The Crescent project and move-on accommodation and supervision and development of the staff team. Different days have different issues to deal with. You need lots of flexibility but it makes for an interesting day!
What do you enjoy most?
Working with young people in need of support. Developing and improving services for people with support needs. Working with a committed / dedicated team of people with the same objectives and outlook. Developing skills in my team, encouraging training and aspirations for future careers in Transform.
What is your most satisfying experience?
Too many to choose from… and I’m always expecting a better one around the corner. I would have to say moving a young person into independent accommodation is always a good experience. Having a great team working with me is another.

What different roles have you had in Transform?
I was the Chairperson of the Client Forum.
On a personal level what do you think you have gained?
Confirmation, on a personal and professional level, that our support is needed and that the work we do is very crucial to the future of all the clients we support into independence. That gives me a lot of personal job satisfaction.
What do you think Transform as an organisation to work for?
Transform is a very supportive and encouraging organisation to work for, their values and objectives in supporting people are not just for clients; staff are given the same element of respect, development and encouragement to feel supported.
What experience did you have of this sector?
I worked for English Churches Housing (now Riverside) in Guildford for 10 years managing Vaughan House, a 47-bed hostel specialising in alcohol detox. I am also a qualified counsellor, although not practicing currently. This has given me skills and insight to a wide range of issues.
What did you do before joining Transform?
Before I came to Vaughan House, I was a manager in the retail sector for over 15 years, working at Allders of Woking.
